Get Walton County Court Records
Start by naming the court, division, case number, exact filing or date, and whether a plain or certified copy is needed. Walton Superior records belong to the Clerk of the Superior Court. Magistrate, Probate, Juvenile, and each municipal court keep their own files. PeachCourt offers Superior case information and some images after account registration. Walton Magistrate WebCaseManagement provides a free docket search and some civil documents. Neither replaces the correct clerk for certification, an older paper file, or a record missing online.
- Find the docket and note the court, division, case number, caption, entry, and filing date.
- Check PeachCourt for Superior Court or WebCaseManagement for Magistrate Court.
- Contact the right clerk in person, by mail, phone, email, or published fax when the item is absent.
- Confirm the fee, payment method, delivery choice, and likely turnaround before sending funds.
- State whether the request is for inspection, a plain copy, certification, or a transcript.
Walton Court Custodians Split
The records route depends on the bench that handled the case. Karen P David, the elected Clerk of Superior Court, has civil and criminal divisions. The civil side files, stores, retrieves, and processes Superior civil matters and appeal records. The criminal side handles warrants, citations, accusations, indictments, pleadings, misdemeanors, and felonies filed in Superior Court. Magistrate civil and warrant files remain with the Magistrate clerk. Probate files and county traffic matters remain with Probate. Juvenile records follow restricted access rules, while city cases stay with the municipal clerk.
The official Walton Superior Clerk page shows the office readers should use for Superior files.

The image reinforces why a Superior record request should not be sent to a lower-court portal.
Walton County Court Record Types
A docket is the time-ordered index. A filed document is the complaint, answer, motion, order, judgment, exhibit, service return, warrant, or other item behind an entry. A certified copy is authenticated by the clerk for a formal use. Printing a portal screen does not make it certified. A transcript is different again because a court reporter or transcriber creates it. This distinction saves time and prevents a request for “the whole case” when only one signed order is needed.
- Docket sheets and chronological case entries
- Pleadings, service returns, motions, and exhibits
- Signed orders, judgments, and disposition records
- Plain or clerk-certified copies
- Reporter-produced hearing and trial transcripts
Open Records Versus Court Files
Walton County's NextRequest queue serves county administrative records. It is not a shortcut around the clerk who holds a judicial case file. Georgia guidance directs a request to the actual custodian and favors a clear written description. Send a Superior case-file request to the Superior clerk first. Use NextRequest only for county-government material or when the custodian redirects the request.
The Walton County open-records portal illustrates the separate administrative route.

That split matters because the office with legal custody must inspect, copy, redact, or certify the requested material.
Inside Walton County Court Records
A Walton case file can combine a case header, parties and counsel, filed papers, settings, rulings, financial entries, and appeal activity. The docket supplies chronology, while each linked or paper document supplies the substance. Walton forms use both “Docket #” and “Civil Action File Number,” but official sources do not publish one universal number format. Copy the identifier exactly from the notice or docket.
| Case Number | The court-assigned key, copied exactly as shown. |
|---|---|
| Pleadings | Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, and service papers. |
| Orders & Judgments | Signed rulings and final or interim decisions. |
| Docket Sheet | The chronological list of filings, settings, and court acts. |
| Exhibits | Filed attachments that may have separate access limits. |
Walton Requests Need Precision
A useful written request names Walton County Superior Court, the civil or criminal division, full case number, caption if known, the exact item and date, number of copies, and desired certification. Add a return address, phone or email, and preferred delivery method. Ask the clerk to quote the cost and payment method. No official Walton page promises same-day service, publishes a general Superior copy price, or gives a guaranteed turnaround.
The Georgia Attorney General's request guidance shows why specific written requests create a clearer record.

A narrow request also helps the custodian identify any withheld piece and cite the basis for withholding it.
Certified Copies and Fees
Plain copies reproduce the record. Certified copies carry the clerk's authentication. Walton Probate has published amounts, but the Superior clerk's ordinary copy and certification prices were not found in current official web text. PeachCourt registration is free, though charges may apply to images. Confirm cost before purchase and never apply a Probate or specialized UCC fee to an ordinary Superior case file.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Probate copy | $1.00 per page |
| Probate certification under seal | $10, plus copy cost |
| Probate certified letters | $10, copy included |
| Superior plain or certified copy | Confirm with clerk |

Federal Records Use PACER
Walton County lies in the Middle District of Georgia's Athens Division for federal civil and criminal matters. PACER and CM/ECF do not hold Walton state Superior, Magistrate, Probate, or municipal records. PACER is the public viewing and billing system. CM/ECF is the federal filing and case-management layer. Current PACER pricing is distinct from PeachCourt pricing, so one schedule must never be quoted for the other.
The official PACER pricing page explains federal docket charges and quarterly waivers.

The federal route is useful only after confirming that the matter was filed in federal court.
Walton Transcripts Are Separate
A transcript is not a docket printout and does not come from the clerk's normal copying process. The court reporter or transcriber creates it from a proceeding that was taken down. Since July 1, 2025, a reporter is not automatically present for Alcovy Superior civil calendars. A party who wants a civil matter recorded must contact the reporter at least 48 hours ahead. A Monday setting requires notice by the prior Friday. Late cancellation can produce a $100 charge when no other party arranged coverage.
For an existing transcript, identify the judge, case number, hearing date, and type of proceeding. Ask the assigned reporter or court office whether the event was recorded, what form is available, the quote, deposit, and delivery time. Do not ask the clerk to certify a docket sheet as though it were the spoken record. If no reporter attended, a verbatim transcript may not exist. That absence does not affect the docket entry or filed order.
Public Access and Sealed Records
Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 begins with a presumption that court records are open for inspection. A court may limit access through a defined process when privacy harm clearly outweighs the public interest. A public docket line can remain while a linked exhibit or filing is sealed. Juvenile, adoption, dependency, protected family-violence identifiers, and other confidential material may be absent or redacted. Clerk staff can explain the access route, but cannot undo a judge's sealing order.

Georgia Open Government FAQ explains O.C.G.A. §§ 50-18-70 through 72 and custodian requests.

For a withheld court item, ask for the rule, statute, or order and whether a redacted copy can be released.
